TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29 BELLWORK Make a list of words and phrases that you use when you want to sound “fancy,” educated, or sophisticated. What are the “normal” versions of these words? Under what circumstances do you use your fancy vocabulary?

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31 BELLWORK “It takes all kinds to make a world!”– old saying What books, movies, or TV shows can you think of that show the audience a “cross section of society”? That is, what texts show you all kinds of people, from all different walks of life? What kinds of people would you include in a “Canterbury Tale” about FHS?

READ ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER, & ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS: How does the narrator describe your character’s physical appearance? (Looks, clothes, bearing, etc.) Use at least one quotation (& cite the line number!) How does the narrator describe your character’s personality? Use at least one quotation (& cite the line number!) Where does this person fit on the social ladder? (Nobility Peasant) Who would you pick to play this character in a movie? What is your overall impression of this character? (One complete sentence).

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 01 BELLWORK What do you think women want, more than anything else? Write what you think women want, and explain why you think this. Are women’s desires (in general) different from men’s desires (in general)? Why or why not?

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 06 BELLWORK What is a memoir? What is the difference between a memoir and an autobiography? Answer in sentences OR in a venn diagram Why do you think memoirs are so popular these days?

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11 BELLWORK Make a list of issues and social problems that are related to your book. (Example: alcoholism, child neglect, civil rights, unemployment, etc.) What search terms might you use to look for articles on these topics? Have you ever researched any of these issues before? If so, which ones? What class was this research for? Example: Issue: eating disorders Search terms: anorexia, bulimia, eating disorder, healthy body image, thinspiration, thigh gap
