5. Preparing a slide To make a temporary wet mount slide –Get a clean slide –Place a tiny, thin piece of the specimen on the slide –Place a small drop of water over the specimen –Place a cover slip over the specimen –For oil emersion put a drop of oil on top of the cover slip

Obtaining/Viewing a Cheek Specimen Gently scrape the inside of your cheek with the broad side of a flat toothpick Sir the toothpick in a drop of water placed on a clean slide Dispose of the toothpick Place a cover slip on the slide, over the specimen Observe the cheek cells using a microscope Compare to Fig 4.3 Report your findings Sketch a skin cell in the space provided Make a second wet mount and add a drop of methylene blue to the water Compare and report results
