2. Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina was formed in the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season. It was the 5 th deadliest storm in US history. Katrina was also the 6 th strongest hurricane overall. It started forming around the Bahamas area and crossed the southern part of Florida as a Category 1 storm, and became a Category 3 storm near southeast Louisiana. Katrina caused tons of damage along the Gulf Coast, from central Florida to southeast Texas. 3. The Tri-State Tornado The Tri-State Tornado happened in March, 1925, was the deadliest tornado in US history. There were 695 confirmed deaths, which was twice as much as The 1840 Great Natchez Tornado, the second deadliest tornado. The tornado crossed from Missouri through Southern Illinois, to the Southwestern area of Indiana, stretching more than 219 miles. 4. Great Mississippi F l ood of 1927 The Great Mississippi Flood started by heavy rain in 1926. On New Years Day, 1927, the Cumberland River flooded to 56.2 feet in Nashville Tennessee, flooding the Mississippi River. On April 15 th. 1927, 15 inches of rain poured in 18 hours. That caused flooding with a volume twice Niagara Falls. The damage caused $400 million dollars and killed 246 people in seven different states. The Great Mississippi Flood affected Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. 5. 2010 San Bruno Wi l dfire (Pipeline Explosion) The 2010 San Bruno Wildfire was actually caused by a pipeline explosion at 6:11 pm on September 9 th. San Bruno is a suburb of San Francisco. A 30- inch steel natural gas pipeline owned by Pacific Gas & Electric exploded 2 miles from the San Francisco International Airport, in a residential neighborhood of Crestmoor.
