Guiding Principles Compliance Guiding Principles Background The federal government established sustainability requirements for all agencies: Executive Order 13423 in 2007 High Performance and Sustainable Buildings Guidance in 2008 Executive Order 13514 in 2009 Buildings >5000 square feet must comply with the established requirements

Guiding Principles Compliance Guiding Principles Background Section 2(g) of EO 13514 directs the head of each agency “to implement high performance sustainable Federal building design, construction, operation and management, maintenance, and deconstruction including by: (ii) ensuring that all new construction, major renovation, or repair and alteration of Federal buildings complies with the Guiding Principles for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings, (Guiding Principles)” iii) ensuring that at least 15 percent of the agency’s existing buildings (above 5,000 gross square feet) and building leases (above 5,000 gross square feet) meet the Guiding Principles by fiscal year 2015 and that the agency makes annual progress toward 100 percent conformance with the Guiding Principles for its buildings inventory.”

There are three central elements to the GPC Rating System. 0% - 39% Not Certified 40% - 59% 2 GPC 60% - 79% 3 GPC 80% - 99% 4 GPC 100% 5 GPC 2: Compliance Rating 1: Compliance Score 3: GPC Logo Rating System
