Miss Skaff’s Class Teaching PDHPE in Primary Schools Teaching PDHPE in Primary Schools is an important aspect of the school curriculum. It aims to promote a healthier lifestyle through physical, social, emotional growth and development patterns. 1

PDHPE allows students to build confidence, develop skills and build and maintain a healthier active lifestyle. 2

There are 8 strands that contribute to the subject matter: 1. Gymnastics 2. Dance 3. Active lifestyle 4. Safe living 5. Personal health choices 6. Personal relationships 7. Games and sports 8. Growth and development There are 5 skill outcomes in the PDHPE syllabus: 1. Decision-making 2. Communicating 3. Moving 4. Interacting 5. Problem-solving 3

Grow, play and learn Encourage children to eat healthier snacks and eat at regular intervals Drink plenty of water – children need about 5 cups per day Be sure to eat a balance of foods from the healthy pyramid Be creative to promote a child’s willing to taste 4

There are many benefits of teaching PDHPE in Primary schools. PDHPE contributes to the overall wellbeing of students at any age. It is important to encourage and promote PDHPE and a healthy lifestyle in everyday life to ensure a healthy future and educate future generations. 5
