Objectives –Content Objective—Identify appropriate teaching strategies for the proficiency levels described in TOPS for the high school mathematics class. –Language Objective—Participants will utilize the resources provided and the experts at the table to discuss, revise, and add appropriate strategies for ELL students in math.

Strategies With your partner –Identify three strategies seen or discussed today that will help the ELL student in a high school math class. Share one of the strategies you discussed with the table group. Share one strategy you have not heard mentioned by another group.

Handbook Students usually are doing the following: –Listening as opposed to speaking –Responding nonverbally Teachers should do this: –Use a lot of gestures –Encourage—but do not force—students to speak Beginner

Prepare to share One unique or particularly useful strategy you (or your group) did not know about before this session. Select your spokesperson by determining who was the last person to join the group this morning. Value Added Sharing (something that has not been mentioned yet)

Please turn in one original copy of your group work. We will give everyone copies of the proposed edits in the morning. Everyone attending this session will receive copies in the mail in 3–4 weeks.
