LETTER TO MYSELF A Snapshot of Who I Am Today
2
OVERVIEW You have had your first taste of a new school year and a new high school. This can be considered a milestone. It marks an important event in your personal history and your academic career. It’s your first week of high school! That’s a big deal. And in order to preserve the memory of this week, you will be writing a letter to yourself.
3
OVERVIEW CONT. Each high school year will be very exciting. You will grow tremendously both intellectually and physically. In order to better appreciate all the changes that you will experience this year, you need to have a record of yourself at the beginning. Thus, your short writing assignment is a letter to yourself.
4
PURPOSE The purpose of this letter is to provide you with a verbal “snapshot” of who you are RIGHT NOW and at the beginning of high school. This letter will be read ONLY by YOU; so be open and honest. I/we will give this letter back to you in June. It will remain sealed and safe until then.
5
RESULT When you read the letter in June, you will be so surprised by the many changes you experienced. You will be amazed by the memories of those first few days of high school. You will realize how much you’ve grown. You will enjoy reading about who you were back in September 2014. You will laugh at yourself, and you may cry at yourself. It will be very worth your while to take this seriously.

BEGIN YOUR LETTER LIKE THIS… Dear Me, Today is (date), and I just began high school. I am writing myself this letter so that I may better remember who I was at the beginning of my high school career.

CONTENT OF THE LETTER In essence, all you are to write about is who you are right now. You are to describe yourself as completely as you can. You are to write about what is relevant in your life, what you are currently experiencing/feeling/thinking. You are to write about the current state of YOU. Some ideas/suggestions will follow.
