2.  Includes a title page  Begins with an abstract (1 paragraph)  Follows a structured outline  Uses numbered headings and alphabetical sub-headings  Provides a literature review, discussion of project process, and conclusions/predictions  Uses MLA citation format in Bibliography

3.  The Introduction is crucially important. A casual reader will only continue reading if the introduction captivated him/her. It should consist of at least three paragraphs answering the following questions:  What is the innovation you selected (define it)?  Why is it important for others to know about? Really, who cares?  Why might it be interesting for your reader to know more about – give a hook. Was there something you learned that was surprising, made you want to know more about it, gave you an “ah ha” moment…?

4. The historical background, or context in which your innovation was developed should lay the foundation for relevant connections you’ll discuss in the next section of your report. Explain what you learned about the origins of your innovation topic. Include a graphic representation of your timeline of key developments in your topic.

5. In this section of your report, explain how your innovation works. You’ll likely have 3-4 paragraphs in this section and may have *sub-headings as you respond to questions such as (these are examples only):  What are its component parts?  How do these parts interact?  What are cause/effect relationships?  What are dangers/risks/cautions?*  What are tangential outcomes?*

6. This section of your paper is, essentially, a 5-part essay within the technical report. After an introductory paragraph, which contains a thesis statement about how your innovation has had an impact on who we are today, use sub-headings as follow:  Political  Economic  Social  Intellectual

7. For this section, you may use a bit of creative writing, but link your predictions for future developments for your innovation with sound knowledge of it. In short, what your innovation looks like or how it is used in the future must be grounded in our current reality. This section will likely be 3-5 paragraphs as you take your reader from now into the future.

8. In completing this semester project, you created several products. In this last section, reflect on and describe what your team made and why. What did you want to accomplish or demonstrate for your audience? Discuss each of the products:  Working model  Technology in presentation  Interactivity  This technical report ** Note: this is the ONLY section of your paper in which you may use “we”

9. Use MLA format for your final bibliography that should contain 10+ resources (with at least 4 of them in print/books). Remember to list all resources in alphabetical order (no numbers or bullets) Single-space citations, double-space in between citations

10.  Final report is 6-8 pages (mostly single-spaced)  Final report contains at least 2 graphs or photos, which should be legible, but not larger than ¼ of a page (except the timeline which may need to be larger to be legible). Color is great, but not necessary.  Your DRAFT will be all double-spaced (for editing), but  The FINAL report will be single-spaced (but double spaced between headings & sub-headings)  Use formal Standard Academic English (SAE)  Avoid the passive voice  No “You” or “We” (except in section VI, “we” is okay there)  Edit and read your paper aloud before you turn it in. More than 3 errors in grammar or punctuation automatically lowers your grade. More than 6 errors is a “failure”  Edits marked in your April draft must be revised before the May 23 rd deadline. Plan time to rewrite as needed between 5/4-5/23.

11.  Turn in one draft report for your team directly to Dr. Rodenberg by no latter than noon on April 20 th.  Your reviewed/edited report will be returned to you by May 4 th, so that you have time to make revisions  Your draft will include a title page with each partners’ name  Your final report (you may want to print in color) will be displayed as part of your exhibit on May 23 rd AND MUST be turned in to Dr. Rodenberg at the conclusion of the exhibit (noon) on this day.  Keep “back up” copies of your report…just in case!
