Create an ad using rhetorical techniques. Warm-up—Write 5-8 sentences on the following prompt. Support it with specific examples, facts, etc. and end with an effective closing. What is logos, ethos, and pathos (rhetorical techniques)? ELACC8RI4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative, connotative, and technical meanings; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including analogies or allusions to other texts.

Interview 2 classmates and use the following questions to record their answers. What are some things that you do to make someone think like you, act like you, or agree with you? Use your notes and create a flap book on Rhetorical Techniques—Ethos, Pathos, & Logos. Include the following— Definition Characteristics of technique Examples (3) of technique Draw pictures or cut out and paste pictures. Homework: Create an ad using rhetorical techniques. See next slide.

Create an ad for your favorite product. Your ad must include the following: A Slogan- something catchy At least one image Grab Words- words to get people to notice Ad copy- words to convince the audience to buy the product- You must use logos, ethos, and pathos in your advertisement.

Medium Sized Circle We will call on at least 4 people. All 4 students will share ONE thing he/she learned from work session. The 1 st student will share. Then 2 nd person will REPEAT what 1 st person shared and then share his/her “learned” statement. Next, 3 rd person will REPEAT what 1 st and 2 nd persons shared and then share his/her “learned” statement. Finally, 4 th person will REPEAT what 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd persons shared and then share his/her “learned” statement. Audience will listen attentively to all students to be reminded of work session.
