 1. Be organized!  Be able to make sense of all of your notes, worksheets, past tests – and any other pieces of paper for EACH class. Keep all of the material for one class together – and separate from other classes.

 2. Manage your time!  Great students are able to manage their time and prioritize tasks. Get difficult work done first, and leave to simple stuff for later in the day when you may not need all of your brain power.

 3. Be successful in the classroom!  Take good notes, participate in discussions, ask and answer questions – this makes you an ACTIVE learner and material is recalled much easier later on.  Be prompt  Be prepared  Teacher repeats  Avoid the drama  Adapt to the teacher BUT Put it in YOUR style!

 4. Read your textbooks!  By truly reading your textbooks, answering the questions in them, and using the study aids included in them, you will gain greater insight into the material. Your textbooks can also give you objective clarification of material.

 5. Use test-taking strategies!  Get ideas from teachers, College Board and published books.

 6. In 10 th grade…  consider taking the Dual Enrollment College Success class! You need to have at least a 3.0 UNWEIGHTED GPA for this.

 Answer the questions on the green paper  Add up the a,b, and c answers  Identify your learning style ◦ Visual ◦ Auditory/Verbal ◦ Kinesthetic/Active

 Always go to your strength first  In a group, try to work with students who have learning styles that are DIFFERENT from yours  Combining learning styles makes for more powerful learning overall

 Auditory learners should have someone ask them questions out loud.  Visual learners should read & highlight notes and pay special attention to heading in textbooks.  Kinesthetic learners should make flash cards with important terms and ideas.

 Auditory learners should read aloud – go ahead, your family will understand!  Visual learners should find a quiet place to read uninterrupted.  Kinesthetic learners should take notes while reading; if that’s too boring, walk around while you read (and you have nothing to lose if you happen to read aloud as well).

 Auditory learners should try explaining how to do the work to another person.  Visual learners should keep their pages neat and the numbers in columns.  Kinesthetic learners should try to make charts, graphs or even paper models to make the concept more engaging.

 Auditory learners should talk to experts about the task. Try the internet for segments, news clips or lectures you can listen to. This will peak your interest and get you started.  Visual learners should make a detailed outline and timeline and begin to follow it immediately.  Kinesthetic learners should plan the project as a display, theatrical show or power point. Once planned, your will be excited to get the project done.

 Try combining as many of the skills and trick for various learners.  Auditory learners can have fun being kinesthetic and visual learners can benefit from listening.
