2 Many emergency responders want to or do rush to the site of a disaster with good intentions of helping. Reviews of major responses have shown that self-dispatched resources place an undo burden on local jurisdictions and slow emergency and recovery responses. 3 The answer is to deploy as a part of a recognized force of responders trained and credentialed in areas needed during and immediately after disaster. With this, those needing help are guaranteed to receive resources they can use and accommodate while keeping you safe and accounted for. 4 Shelby-Pottawattamie-Harrison Disaster Response Task Force Formed in 2008 in response to fill unmet resource needs to the Parkersburg, Iowa F5 Tornado event. All-hazard fire, rescue, EMS response organization developed to assist jurisdictions with various resource needs during or after a major event. 5 Minimum requirement to join based on training and experience. Utilizes national standard credentialing procedures. Provides a single coordinating resource/dispatch point for resources assembled from 3 counties. Shelby - Pottawattamie - Harrison Disaster Response Task Force

6 How to Join 1.Get authorization from your local Fire Chief. 2.Complete the application packet. 3.Return application packet to a Task Force Board Member. 4.Begin your probationary period training and deploying with the task force. 5.Follow task force guidelines for training and currency.
