3 Positioning Patient erect Arms at side Position patient oblique about 15-20 degrees to the right side. Align sternum to midline of IR Place IR or light about 1 ½ inches above jugular notch.

4 CR perpendicular and left to midline of spine And midway of jugular notch and xiphoid process SID 40

5 Collimation To sternum About 5 inches wide

6 Seen on Radiograph Sternum Visualized and superimposed on heart shadow. No superimposition of vertebrae

7 Lateral Cassette 10 x 12 lengthwise Shield Marker Measures 29 Technique 70 KV @ 80 mAs Hold breath on inspiration

8 Positioning Patient erect with side against IR Shoulder and arms drawn back Sternum align with midline of IR Place light or IR about 1 ½ inches above jugular notch. True lateral with no rotation

9 CR perpendicular to mid Sternum SID 60-72

10 Seen on Radiograph Entire sternum No imposition of arms or shoulders Minimal overlap of soft tissue No imposition of ribs

14 Positioning for erect Patient is erect with back against bucky Center midline of body to midline of bucky Arms at sides IR about the level of Armpits Or center of cassette is 2 inches above crest

16 Seen on Radio graph Both diaphragms Air-filled stomach As much of lower abdomen as possible. No rotation

18 Positioning Patient supine Midline align with midline of table Arms at sides Legs extended
