2 Definition: To treat kindly in an excessive way Part of Speech: Past Tense Verb Pronunciation: Pam-per-d Example: The parents doted on and pampered her daughter. Pampered

3 Species Definition: a class of individuals having some common characteristics or qualities; distinct or kind Part of Speech: Plural Noun Pronunciation: Spee-seez Example: The groups of deer may have looked different, but they had enough similarities to be considered part of the same species.

4 Pelted Definition: Attack someone by throwing things at them. Part of Speech: Past Tense Verb Pronunciation: Pelt-id Example: The man was pelted with rocks by the town people for his crime.

5 Trivial Definition: having little meaning or importance Part of Speech: Adjective Pronunciation: Triv-ee-uh-l Example: The man’s problems with his T.V breaking were trivial compared to his employment problems.

6 Poised Definition: someone looking composed, dignified, and self- assured. Part of Speech: Adjective Pronunciation: Poizd Example: I could tell the man was confident in what he said from his poised look.

7 Legitimate Definition: official and conforming to the laws and rules Part of Speech: Adjective Pronunciation: li-jit-uh-mit Example: After carefully looking at the document it was looked over to see whether or not it was legitimate.

8 Inundate Define: to overwhelm Part of Speech: Verb Pronunciation: in-uhn-deyt Example: The man was inundated by the amount of work his boss handed him.

9 Upright Define: erect or vertical, as in position or posture Part of Speech: Adjective Pronunciation: Uhp-rahyt Example: The skyscraper stood tall and upright.

10 Status Definition: the position or rank of someone Part of Speech: Noun Pronunciation: Stey-tuh s Example: The person’s boss had a higher status in the company.

11 Murky Definition: dark and gloomy Part of Speech: Adjective Pronunciation: mur-kee Example: The dark water looked very murky.

12 Sullen Definition: showing irritation or ill humor by a gloomy silence or reserve Part of Speech: Adjective Pronunciation: suhl-uh n Example: After being woken up in the middle of the night he was feeling very sullen.
