2 Contractions A contraction is a word made by putting two words together. When words are joined in a contraction, an apostrophe is used to show where a letter or letters have been left out.

3 Some contractions combine a pronoun and a verb.
I + will = I’ll I’ll you later. I is a pronoun will is a verb

4 Some contractions combine a verb and the word not.
Has + not = hasn’t Grady hasn’t be eating a lot. has is a verb and it is combined with not

5 Contractions with Pronouns
we + will = we’ll they + will = they’ll she + will = she’ll he + will = he’ll I + will = I’ll he + is = he’s she + is = she’s it + is = it’s I + am = I’m we + are = we’re you + are = you’re they + are = they’re

6 Contractions with verbs and the word not
are + not = aren’t could + not = couldn’t did + not = didn’t does + not = doesn’t do + not = don’t has + not = hasn’t have + not = haven’t is + not = isn’t was + not = wasn’t will + not = won’t were + not = weren’t would + not = wouldn’t
