BBPs Anything that lives in a person’s blood which could cause disease Most common are HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C

Transmission By contact with blood and other body materials containing visible blood Through mucous membranes, cuts or openings in the skin

Safe Work Practices Wear gloves, protective smock, apron Never pick up sharp objects with your hands Properly dispose of sharp objects according to facility policy

Injuries Have workers with minor injuries stop the bleeding themselves If an injury is serious, put on gloves & other protective equipment before approaching a victim Have someone call for help Never clean up spills of blood unless you’re trained and authorized to do so
