OSHA Region IV Electrical Outreach Construction Industry Photos 29 CFR 1926 Regulations

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.951(b)(1) Description –Fall Protection must be provided and used when working on towers and poles.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.950(d)(1)(iv) Description –Protective grounds shall be applied on the disconnected(de-energized) lines or equipment to be worked on.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.954(j) Description –Grounding cables and attachments must be capable of conducting the anticipated fault current.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.954(j) Description –Grounding cables and attachments must be secured to equipment in such a manner as to maintain adequate grounding. The manner in which the grounding attachment was installed in this photo is not adequate.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.955(d)(3) Description –All pulling and tensioning equipment shall be isolated, insulated, or effectively grounded.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.950(d)(1)(iv) Description –Use of proper equipment for grounding de- energized power lines is paramount to protecting employees engaged in line construction and maintenance.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.952(c)(2)(ii) Description –Grounding Rods were not driven into the ground sufficiently to get an adequate ground.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.200(b) Description –Danger signs shall be used where an immediate hazard exist

Construction Industry Photos This is a general view of an electrical Sub- station

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.954(j) Description –Ground lead conductance must be capable of conducting the anticipated fault current.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.550(a)(15)(i) Description –For lines rated 50kv and below, minimum clearance between the lines and any part of the crane or load shall be 10 feet.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.550(a)(15)(ii) Description –For lines rated over 50kv, minimum clearance between the lines and any part of the crane or load shall be 10 feet plus 0.4 inch for each 1kv over 50 kv.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.416(a)(3) Description –Before work is begun the employer must ascertain that electrical circuits are not concealed behind walls or other locations in which contact can be made.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.405(a)(2)(ii)(J) Description –Extension cord sets used with portable electric tools and lights shall be designed for hard or extra-hard usage.

Wire Gauge Cords are offered in many lengths and are marked with a size or "gauge." The gauge is based on the American Wire Gauge (AWG) System, in which the larger the wire, the smaller the AWG number. For example, a 12 gauge wire would be larger, and can power larger wattage appliances, than a 14 gauge wire.

Wire Classes 12/3 means “12 gauge wire” and “/3” means that there are three wires in the cable UL indicates the wire has been certified by the Underwriters Laboratory to be safe SJ means “appliance cord, stranded conductors, cotton layer between wire and insulation, jute filler, rubber outer jacket, lighter service”. (S used by itself means extra hard service; SV is light service only.) T means load temperature must be less than 140 degrees F (in dry conditions). W means “wet use types”.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.405(a)(2)(ii)(F) Description –Temporary lights will not be suspended by their cords unless they are designed for this purpose.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.405(a)(2)(ii)(J) Description –Electric extension cords used in the workplace must be of the three wire type.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.405(a)(2)(I) Description –Electrical cords located on the ground must be protected from vehicular traffic.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.405(g)(1)(iii)(D) Description –Electrical cords and cables will not be attached to building surfaces

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.405(g)(2)(iii) Description –Electrical cords used in the workplace must be in continuous lengths without splice.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.416(a)(1) Description –The bulb is removed from an electrical light socket exposing employees to the hazard of contacting energized parts.

Construction Industry Photos Standard –1926.416(b)(2 Description –Walking spaces, walkways, and similar locations shall be kept clear of cords so as not to create a hazard to employees.
