2 Membership 1600 members as of June 2009 – 1341 professional; 129 students Slowly decreasing over past four years Significantly down from 6801 in 1990 Dues : $15/year ($5/year for students) Not a cause for concern

3 Conferences Thriving set of top-quality conferences SOSP: our flagship symposium held Oct. 11-14 – record attendance: 500+ – 9 co-located workshops – Barbara Liskov’s Turing Award lecture EuroSys being held annually in Europe Many co-sponsored with other SIGs – PODC (with SIGACT), ASPLOS (with SIGPLAN, SIGARCH), SenSys (with SIGMOBILE et al.), VEE (with SIGPLAN) Cooperate with USENIX on OSDI, FAST, etc. New SOCC conference (with SIGMOD)!

5 Finances Healthy fund balance: $571,290 – steadily increasing Budget guided by well-defined principles – e.g. DL revenue pays for student travel grants Planned for a loss at SOSP 2009 conference – but failed!

6 Benefits Operating Systems Review revamped contents – distributed to all members Proceedings as a “member plus” package Awards regularly given at conferences – Mark Weiser Award: Eric Brewer – Dijkstra Prize: Joseph Halpern and Yoran Moses Student travel grants Web site, mailing list, DL access, etc.

7 Issues and Challenges Few takers for new “proceedings” package Editor-in-Chief for TOCS not yet appointed Growing dissatisfaction with ACM copyright policy Increase outreach to other parts of the world (e.g. Asia, Australia, South America) Co-location with USENIX conferences
