1 MTU General Education Academic Years: 2010 – 2011 2009 – 2010 2008 – 2009 28 Credits and 3 units co-curricular activities Last slide covers requirements prior to 2008.

2 General Education 28 Credits 13 credits core “UN” classes 15 credits HASS Electives and 3 units co-curricular activities -Requirements are same for every bachelor’s degree at Tech. (some majors require a specific HASS distribution course) -Requirements pertain to the “degree audit year” (also called ‘Catalog Year’) -“Degree Audit Year” usually the academic year you began at Tech. (or later, in some cases)

3 13 credits of core courses: UN1001 Perspectives on Inquiry (3 cr.) UN1002 World Cultures (4 cr.) UN2001 Composition (3 cr.) Previously “Revisions” UN2002 Institutions (3 cr.) UN1001 and UN1002 cannot be taken elsewhere. Two consecutive semesters of modern language and World Cultures Activities UN1003 can take the place of UN1002. Includes 3 credits of distribution. 4 HASS REQUIREMENTS 15 credits HASS List = Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences 15 Credits Total with the following limitations: 3 credits max. from Creative Endeavor List (activities) 3 credits max. from Supplemental List (borderline HASS) At least 6 credits must be level 3000 or higher CpE majors must take one of the required SS courses for CpE majors. (see next slide) 3 credits of co-curricular units are required Always check the HASS List !!!!! courses must be on the list. transfer credits designated by the transfer office

5 CpE Department specified HASS Elective (also included on the Institutions List in “old” gen ed requirements) Reminder: Computer Engineering (CpE) Majors must select one of the following courses: SS3510 History of American Technology SS3520 U.S. Environmental History SS3530 The Automobile in America SS3630 Environmental Policy/Politics *SS3640 (*supplemental list) Selected Topics in Cyber Law (alternating Falls) SS3800 Energy Technology and Policy Plan ahead to get the one you’d like. Check the course catalog to find out semester offerings and pre-requisites.

7 15 credits of distribution courses ~ 2 Lists 6 Credits must be level 3000 or above (was 9 credits) 6 World Cultures List - Six Credits 6 Institutions List - Six Credits (2005 and beyond CpE majors must take one: SS3520, SS3530, SS3630, SS3640, SS3800) 3 Credits are chosen from either list 3 credits max ‘Activities’ courses Modern Language – All 15 credits distribution may be met 3 units of Co-curricular courses DO NOT MIX AND MATCH requirements from different audit years Run DARS to check your requirements and how you are meeting Prior requirements: For students who began prior to Fall 2008: Students who began Fall 2007, see next slide.

8 Most Fall 2007 students can use the Fall 2008 degree requirements because: 2008 requirements include EE2173 in place of EE2171 You can use the HASS list of electives and disregard the old “World Cultures” and “Institutions” list Fall 2007 (and Spring 2008) students have a choice of which audit year to follow. Check DARS to see which audit year you are following If you wish to switch audit years, see me. Use the audit year that pertains to the distribution list you have been using. You cannot use an audit year prior to the academic year you began at Tech. DO NOT MIX AND MATCH requirements from different audit years Fall 2007 Students For students who began academic year 2007-2008:
