-Unique among cultural institutions -not only of completed -also of the numerous materials that went into the creation of those works. -Collect: -photos, interview outtakes, stock footage, producers' research and notes, correspondence, treatments, and scripts, -provide a distinctive look at the filmmaking and storytelling process

-Opened 2002 -Materials related to Civil Rights, African- American life, the history of Harlem, social justice, democracy and the arts -Jewel in the crown: Hampton/Blackside collection -More than 75,000 items and growing

The Modern Graphic History Library is dedicated to acquiring and preserving distinguished works of modern illustration and pictorial graphic culture while also promoting sustained academic consideration of those materials.

The MGHL includes original art and printed material from many fields of popular American pictorial graphic culture. Focusing on 20th century illustration, the collection includes artists' working materials and sketches as well as original artwork from books, magazines, and advertising.

Includes substantial holdings by Al Parker, Robert Andrew Parker, and Robert Weaver, from their respective estates, as well as the Charles Craver collection of tear sheets, numbering in the thousands and devoted to approximately 60 of the major illustrators from the 1920s-40s.
