Action Verbs An action verb tells what the subject of a sentence does. Some action verbs name actions you can see; some do not! “run” and “march” are action verbs you can see “want” and “need” are action verbs you can’t see

Name the action verbs in the following sentences- 1.The turtle swims in the sea. 2.It needs some food. 3.We arrive at Parker’s Point. 4.My sister knows a lot about turtles. 5.Together we search the beach.

Fill in the blank with an action verb- 1.I _________ volunteering on weekends. 2.We all ________on the sand. 3.I _______ under rocks for turtles. 4.We _______ sandwiches for lunch.

Sometimes there may be a direct object the action verb refers to! Ex. Dan read a book to his brother. “read” is the action verb “book” is the direct object

Find the action verb and the direct object- 1.Mr. Miller taught the class about turtles. 2.The students developed a project about turtles. 3. Write your name on the paper.

Linking Verbs A linking verb connects the subject with a word or words in the predicate that renames or describes the subject. Ex. am, is, are, was, were, feel, seem, appear, look, become

Name the linking verb in the sentences below- 1.The water seemed warm. 2.Carrie felt the sun on her face. 3.They are a big group. 4.The dog was hungry. 5.Harry is a good friend.

Identify the verb as a linking or action verb! 1.I wrote a story about cats. 2.She seems nervous today. 3.Are you sure about that? 4.We felt excited about the game. 5.The dog ran so fast!
