Nelson Mandela’s staff chose The Pacific Institute to help implement a grass roots educational initiative . The entire Faculty of Education at the Nelson Mandela Institute of Education and Rural Development was trained. In 2007, the Guatemalan Ministry of Education engaged The Pacific Institute as a partner in a teacher training project to increase the nation’s low graduation rate for first-graders. In one year, 12,900 teachers were trained.
