(Auto)Immune Thrombocytopenia (1st and early 2nd trimester)
Antibodies coat platelets When traversing the spleen, the platelets are “eaten” by splenic macrophages At birth, infants have minimal splenic function After birth, splenic function increases and risk of severe thrombocytopenia .
