Vulnerable Area Delineation (Part IV – IX) Delineate Surface Water Intake Protection Zones (Part VI) Assign Vulnerability Scores to Vulnerable Groundwater Areas (Part VII)
14
Vulnerable Area Scoring Highly Vulnerable Area: 6 Significant Groundwater Recharge Area High Vulnerability = 6 Moderate Vulnerability = 4 Low Vulnerability = 2 Can Increase with Transport Pathway Adjustment

Significant, Moderate or Low Threats List Activities that would be drinking water threats in Vulnerable Areas Table of Drinking Water Threats developed on “Risk-Based Process” as per Rule 112- 119 For each Activity/Condition (Property) identify threats as significant, moderate, or low based on Vulnerability Score
20
Drinking Water Threats Waste Disposal Site Sewage Storage and Disposal Application of Agricultural Source Material (ASM) Storage of ASM Management of ASM Application of Non-ASM Storage of Non-ASM Application of Fertilizer Storage of Fertilizer Application of Pesticide Storage of Pesticide Application of Road Salt Storage of Road Salt Storage of Snow Storage of Fuel Storage of dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) Storage of organic solvent Management of de-icing runoff

24
Table of Drinking Water Threats For each “Threat” – Significance is Rated based on: Individual Chemicals or pathogens within category Quantity of Chemicals or Pathogens Application Rates Type of Vulnerable Area Vulnerability Score
25
Table of Drinking Water Threats Example 1: For a Sewage System with maintenance of an On-Site Septic System Holding Tank Threat for pathogens is Significant in WHPA areas with Vulnerability Score of 10 Threat for pathogens is Moderate in WHPA areas with vulnerability score of 8 Threat for pathogens is Low in WHPA areas with vulnerability score of 6 Threats for chemicals is typically lower
26
26 JHL Classified Threats for Doane (Unlabelled) EXAMPLE CLASSIFIED THREATS
27
Example 2 Commercial Area High Vulnerability No Pathways Adjustment

31 JHL Threats for Creemore (Unlabelled) EXAMPLE 2 THREATS SANITARY SEWERS INTRODUCED IN 2000 HISTORICAL THREATS ??
32
32 JHL Significant, Moderate, Low Threats for Creemore (Unlabelled) EXAMPLE 2 CLASSIFIED THREATS

Challenges Data Consistency & Accuracy (threat mapping to orthophotography must line up with property fabric) Transport Pathway Rules? Assigning vulnerability or point source threats to a property fabric Most concern for future policies – options? Properties with a small corner in the higher vulnerability area may be over-protected – can we manipulate
