28 Simile An indirect comparison of two unlike things; saying one thing is “like” or “as” the other

29 Metaphor A direct comparison of two unlike things; saying one thing is the other.

30 Personification Giving human qualities to something that is essentially nonhuman

31 Allusion Reference to a historical, literary, political, psychological, or social person, place thing, idea, or event

32 Alliteration The repetition of the initial consonant sound on the first/stressed syllable of subsequent words

33 Onomatopoeia When a word “sounds” like the sound it makes
