11. THE POINT OF THE PASSAGE Jesus is a bridge between your sin and your potential for love. The more you appreciate your sinful indebtedness to Jesus; the more you will be grateful for his grace. The end result: you love much (i.e. Discipleship). Conversely, the less you appreciate your sinful indebtedness, the smaller your gratitude and the less you love. SPIRITUAL BACKGROUND Luke 7:18-35 John the Baptist’ disciples approach Jesus wondering if he is the one that was to come. Jesus does miracles and begins to teach why the people rejected both John and Jesus They say that John is possessed by demons and Jesus is a glutton and drunkard because he eats with tax collectors and sinner. Then Jesus goes to a Pharisees house where he is treated better by the sinner than the “righteous”. THE PURPOSEFUL QUESTION Is your attitude toward your sin more like Simon’s or more like the sinful woman’s? How much are you in touch with your personal sinfulness? Consider the most recent time you committed that sin; consider the first time; consider your attitude towards God each time you indulged that sin. Journals/discussions/ time lines all help increase one’s appreciation of our debt through sin.

We must understand the depth of your separation from your Father. God hides his face and ignores those who chose to live in sin THE PURPOSEFUL QUESTION Why would God not listen or save his people?
