WALT: Explain Islamic attitudes to sex outside of marriage (SOM), promiscuity, adultery and contraception Sex before marriage opinions Sex before marriage Your task is to identify which comments are for and which are against sex before marriage, you then need to decide your own point of view For Against Religious people believe a child should be brought up in a secure environment with a mum and a dad! If you indulge in sex before marriage too much the act can become ‘cheapened’! Contraceptives are available today to stop pregnancy so sex before marriage is okay. You would never buy a pair of shoes without trying them on, so you must have sex before marriage to see if you and your partner are compatible! All religious people agree that sleeping around is wrong and that sex should be with someone you love and trust! Sex is a complex issue and if you sleep around, you can never be sure that you or someone else might not get hurt! Not all people want to get married, but does this mean they should remain celibate? Sex can express one persons love for another. You do not need to be married to be able to show your love for someone else.
