3 + March 5 th consultation  Workshop on 5 th March : Brainstorming on ideas for collaboration between industry and academia  Three task forces set up:  Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship  Skills & Employability  Institutional Mechanism  Each had equal participation from both industry and academia  Over the past two weeks the task forces have brainstormed over the issues 3

10 + Academia / Govt  Special focus at IITs on Innovation and Entrepreneurship  Encourage faculty focus on product development and industrial consultancy  Earmark 2% of Govt / PSU funds for R & D Industry:  Industry R&D Labs at Research Parks in IITs  About 10000 Executive M.Techs per year using live video- classes  Industry personnel pursuing PhDs (part-time)  Encourage R&D personnel to become adjunct faculty Kakodkar Committee on IIT/NITs: 2011 10

11 + Narayan Murthy Committee Report, 2012  Indian Corporate R&D Fund: Corpus of Rs 5,000 crore  Joint academia-industry guides for research;  Internships / apprenticeships by corporations;  Faculty development support by industry-chairs, sabbaticals;  Top management development programmes by Industry  Centre of Excellence / Training Centre by corporate sector  Technology Parks  Set up new institutions (Private/PPP)  Develop new Knowledge Clusters/Hubs: Use existing industrial clusters for research centres  Set up a Council for Industry and Higher Education Collaboration with Govt/ Private funding (CIHEC) 11

12 + Special Focus on Skilling NVEQF and mainstreaming skills into Education Community colleges and polytechnics in PPP Bachelors programme in Vocational Education Skill Knowledge Providers NATAP and apprenticeship scheme Target for MHRD under Skill Mission of PM Budget speech - Rs 1000 Cr for Skilling (All Mins) 12
