when you are talking about an action in the past that was not completed We were having dinner when our friends arrived. (were having is the past continuous)

The Past Continuous To form the past continuous: use the correct form of was/were I/he/she was working… You/we/they were working…

The Past Continuous How do I ask questions?
Were you reading that book? Was he walking along the road? You can also use question words: What was she doing? Where were they going?

Use the correct form of wasn’t/weren’t She/he/I wasn’t doing her/his/my homework… We/they/you weren’t listening to music…
