Galatians 3:3-5 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Have you suffered so much for nothing -- if it really was for nothing? Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?

Message Bible Galatians 3:3-5
Let me put this question to you: How did your new life begin? Was it by working your heads off to please God? Or was it by responding to God's Message to you? Are you going to continue this craziness? For only crazy people would think they could complete by their own efforts what was begun by God.

Message Bible Galatians 3:3-5
If you weren't smart enough or strong enough to begin it, how do you suppose you could perfect it? Did you go through this whole painful learning process for nothing? It is not yet a total loss, but if certainly will be if you keep this up!

COMMENTARY Good Morning Friends!
In our scriptural text this morning Paul seems to be pretty straight forward in his line of questioning. I would say that he seems to be a little incensed with the Galatians. Paul begins with who! what! has bewitched you? The Galatians (who had experienced the power of God)

seemed to be so far from where they had begun that Paul was convinced that it was crazy. Magic was common in Paul's day. Magicians used both optic illusions and Satan's power to perform miracles, and people were drawn into the magician's mysterious rites without recognizing their dangerous source.

Paul addresses the Galatians, because many of these same individuals were in Jerusalem at the Pentecost movement. They experienced the power of the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. They knew that they hadn't received God's Spirit by obeying the Jewish laws. Paul's line of questioning stresses that just as they had began their Christian lives in the power of the Spirit, they should grow by the Spirit's power.

My friend, it is totally impossible to continue living out our faith in human effort. The same Holy Spirit that you embraced through faith is the same power that helps you to live your everyday life. But my friend you must learn to contend for the faith and run well. This means bearing fruit and displaying the nature of God in and every situation you find yourself.

Question! Who or what has bewitched you? What has drawn you backwards? Who is pulling you backwards? What is keeping you from running well? You might want to rethink this. Dr. Janice Gilbert, Senior Pastor McKinney United Methodist Church Copyrighted 2012

3. How will you fight the good fight of faith?

Life Application Conclusion
I really like that the way Rev. Shirley Caesar says it, "I wouldn't give nothing for journey" Paul evens says in Romans, I am persuaded that nothing can separate be from the love of God. I think you better rethink your position before going another way.
