1
Six Forms of Energy
2
1.Mechanical Energy: energy due to an object’s motion or position. Examples: moving object, stationary (still) object
3
2.Thermal Energy: the total energy of atoms in an object. Examples: relates to temperature of an object Absolute Zero (0 Kelvin = -459.6° F) is the coldest temperature (atoms stop moving)!
4
3.Chemical Energy: the potential energy stored in chemical bonds that hold atoms together. Examples: food, matches, cells
5
4.Electrical Energy: the energy produced by moving electric charges. Examples: electricity (batteries, power lines)
6
5.Electromagnetic Energy: the energy that travels in waves. Examples: visible light, UV radiation, microwaves
7
6. Nuclear Energy: the energy stored in the nucleus of an atom. Examples: fusion (the Sun), fission (nuclear power plants)
8
What form of energy is the human using to jump?
9
Energy conservation- a change from one form of energy to another. Law of conservation of energy- when one form of energy is converted to another, no energy is destroyed in the process
