Revision of AS 4708 and AS 4707

AFSL announces the 5-yearly revision process of the Australian Standards for Sustainable Forest Management (AS 4708) and Chain of Custody of wood and wood products (AS 4707).

Who is involved ◦ Australian Forestry Standard Limited ◦ Standards Revision project team and secretariat ◦ Standards Reference Committee ◦ Key Stakeholder groups and all interested parties.

The revision will be a concentrated and collaborative process spanning 2 years. Intensive public participation plan Fully engage all stakeholders groups and interested parties within and connected to sustainable forestry and the supply chain of wood and wood products.

SRC has responsibility of the reviews and ultimate decision making powers The AFSL Board and CEO have no content decision making powers in these review processes.

Australian Standard for Forest Management and wood products chain of custody that can be recognised by multiple international schemes. Develop the Australian Standards as Australia/New Zealand Standards and rebadge as AS/NZ 4708 and AS/NZ 4707

1. Finalise Standards Reference Committees (SRC) 2. Finalise Key Criteria for the revision of each Standard 3. Finalise Project Plans 4. Develop Public Consultation papers 5. Publish Public Consultation papers for comment 6. Manage, receive and prepare summaries of public comments/recommendations

7. Develop a detailed response and commence consultation on recommendations with SRCs 8. Finalise DRAFT Revised Standard submit for AFSL Board approval to proceed 9. Publish final DRAFT for public comment 10. Finalise Standard and submit for AFSL Board approval to proceed with SA final approval process.

What is the expected time commitment of a SRC Member? Can the revision take longer, or shorter than the expected timeframe? How do you get consensus? How many meetings, and are they all required to be in person? If you are not an SRC Member, can you observe the meetings?
