Overview of the 2009 Reading Assessment Administered January – March 2009 to – 178,800 fourth-graders – 160,900 eighth-graders Students read literary and informational texts Questions aligned to three reading processes – Locate and recall – Integrate and interpret – Critique and evaluate 2

NAEP Reading Results Results available for grades 4 and 8 for – Nation – 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Department of Defense school system Results reported as – Average scale scores (0–500 scale) – Achievement levels ( Basic, Proficient, Advanced ) 3
