Why Am I Here Today? We want to tell you about ourselves and what we do We are looking for hard-working dedicated and skilled tradespeople We want more First Nation people working in the construction trades We want you to think about joining us

What Are the Building Trades? We are construction unions Organized by trade – ie. Plumber, electrician, sheet metal worker About 7,000 members in Saskatchewan

What Do We Do? We build major projects such as hospitals, power plants and potash mines We don’t build houses – we are focussed on industrial construction

How Does the Union Work? We find jobs for our members We help to train our members We negotiate good wages and benefits for our members We don’t use seniority

What is a Building Trade? A building trade is an area of expertise related to construction There are 13 trades in the Saskatchewan Building Trades: 1.Boilermaker 2.Bricklayer 3.Carpenter 4.Cement Mason 5.Electrician 6.Insulator 7.Iron Worker 8.Labourer 9.Millwright 10.Operating Engineer 11.Painter 12.Plumber / Pipefitter 13.Sheet Metal Worker

What is Apprenticeship? A work-based education system Work and get paid most of the year Attend school for two months once per year Receive employment insurance while going to school Learn on the job Earn while you learn

What Do You Need to Do? Stay in school Work hard Keep a positive attitude Stay drug free Think about what trade you would like Contact the Building Trades Register as an apprentice
