3 Purpose  We decided to test this question because we wanted to know if a vehicle with more wheels would go faster or a vehicle with less wheels.

4 Question  How will the standard vehicle’s speed compare to a 2 wheeled and 3 wheeled vehicle’s speed?

5 Prediction  My group predicted that the 2 wheel vehicle would be the fastest!

6 Procedure  1.Design vehicle, build vehicle,  2.Set up runway, set up falling weight system (16 small washers=1 big washer.)  3.Test standard vehicle. Then 3 wheel vehicle, then test the 2 wheel vehicle. Test 3 times each.

7 Photos/Sketches  These are the materials we used as we tested the three vehicle designs for speed.

8 Controlled Variables  1.Weight-1 large washer  2. No Load (blocks)  3.Surface-the desk  4.Runway-a distance of 1 meter  5. Falling weight system using 1 large washer as the force to pull the vehicle

9 Manipulated variable  1.The vehicle shape.  2.The number of wheels(4, 3, or 2).

10 Responding variable  The speed at which the vehicle traveled 1 meter.

11 Materials  2 wheel vehicle.  3 wheel vehicle  The standard vehicle (4 wheeled vehicle).  The falling weight system  1 big washer=16 small washers.  Data table  Stop watch  Meter stick  Desktops

14 conclusion  To conclude, our hypothesis was correct because we thought that the 2 wheeled vehicle would go faster then the 3 wheeled vehicle and the standard vehicle. The 2 wheeled vehicle went 1.19 cm/sec, while the 3 wheeled vehicle went 1.43 cm/sec, and the standard vehicle went 1.96cm/sec. We think this happened because there was less friction between the 2 wheels compared to 3 and 4 wheels. We can conclude that the 2 wheeled vehicle went fastest because of our data.

15 New question(s)…  Sammy: If we added blocks would the data change?  Blake: How would the vehicles speed compare to the same vehicle but with 1 block load?  Anna: What would happen if we took the front wheel of the three wheeled vehicle, using the falling weight system, will the vehicle still work?  Anthony L: Will the vehicle go faster if it is going down a ramp or being pulled by the falling weight system?
