Hospital Major type of health care facility Institution that provides medical or surgical care and treatment for the sick or injured Types/Classifications based on source of income Private or Proprietary (operated for profit) Religious Nonprofit/Voluntary Government

Types of Hospitals General Treat wide range of conditions Specialty ie: Burn, oncology, pediatric, psychiatric, orthopedic, rehabilitative Government Operated by federal, state or local agencies ie: VA, State psychiatric, State Rehab University/College Med Ct rs Hospital services along with research and education

Long-term care facilities LTC or LTCF Provide assistance/care for elderly or disabled Patients are called residents Provide basic physical/emotional care to those who can no longer care for themselves; assist with activities of daily living (ADL) Provide safe secure environment & promote social interactions

Independent Living/Assisted Living Facility Allow people to purchase or rent apartment within the facility Services my be provided such as meals, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, social events, basic medical care/assist with meds Need has increased because of the large number of elderly people/ people are living longer

Medical Offices Vary from privately owned by one doctor to large complexes that operate as corporations and employ many doctors/HCW Services – diagnosis, treatment, exam, basic lab test, minor surgery etc. Some treat a wide variety of illness and age groups or may specialize and handle certain age groups or illnesses

Dental Offices Vary in size; may be privately owned or by many dentists Provide dental services May specialize by age or dental conditions or provide general dental care

Clinics Satellite clinics/center Composed of group of medical or dental doctors who share the facility and personnel May provide special care Surgical centers Urgent care Therapy Oncology Diabetic
