21. Spanish Immersion in Costa Rica January 3 – 17, 2015 Earn 3 credits in social work or criminal justice (graduate or undergraduate). Students will attend Spanish immersion classes in the morning, and lectures and site visits in the afternoon. Students are housed with host families. Cost in 2014 was approximately $3500 (for undergrads) and included tuition, room, laundry, breakfast & supper; (airfare excluded).

25. Field Internships in Plymouth, England Two summer internships (graduate & undergraduate) are available in Plymouth, England Internships are 6 – 8 weeks and are equivalent to one semester of field. Students earn 3 – 5 credits. Focus is on substance use and mental health

26. Field Internships in Linz, Austria One summer internship (graduate or undergraduate) is available in Linz, Austria Internships are 6 – 8 weeks and are equivalent to one semester of field. Students earn 3 – 5 credits. Focus is on working with international immigrant families or individuals.

27. We will plan to place a student in Ghana for a one semester internship in the summer of 2015. This could change depending on advice of the Centers for Disease Control in relation to the Ebola virus.

29. Funding opportunities for study abroad Wisconsin Study Abroad Grant: – provides funding for UWM undergraduate students – Maximum award is $2,000, with an average award of $700. In 2014 eligible students who applied were awarded $1500 Veteran’s Benefits – students should consult with the veteran’s benefits advisor in the Department of Financial Aid Title IV-E Grant – Full time students in the BSW component in the CWTP-BSW may be able to have some of their academic costs covered

Scholarships opportunities for graduate students for study abroad Dean’s Scholarship for International Study – Dean Stan Stojkovic awarded three scholarships of $2000 apiece for graduate students study abroad in 2014 – students must be enrolled as full time graduate students in either Social Work or Criminal Justice and have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher Nothum Scholarship for International Studies – This privately funded scholarship made two awards of $2000 apiece for graduate study abroad in 2013 – Students must be enrolled as full time grad students in SW or CJ, have a GPA of 3.5 & evidence of financial need.
