Objects of Kiwanis To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship. To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill. The six permanent Objects of Kiwanis International guide us. They were approved by Kiwanis club delegates at the 1924 Convention in Denver, Colorado. Through the succeeding decades, they have remained unchanged. Refer to New Member Workbook, page x.

Worldwide Service Focus
Young Children: Priority One is a program supported by Kiwanis International and thousands of clubs worldwide. It focuses on maternal and child health, child care and development, parent education and support, and safety and pediatric trauma. The Worldwide Service Project in 1995 was Kiwanis family initiative in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to virtually eliminate the world’s leading cause of preventable mental retardation, iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). Our next Worldwide Service Project will be announced in July 2010 at the Kiwanis International Convention. Kiwanis clubs’ service projects often are linked to the Kiwanis International program, “Young Children: Priority One.” This initiative places continuing focus on the needs of young children through the age of five. Worldwide, the entire Kiwanis family is committed to eliminating the devastating effects of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the world’s leading preventable cause of mental retardation. More than 1.5 billion people are at risk of suffering IDD because they do not receive enough iodine in their diet. But, because of Kiwanis’ efforts, many parents who have been affected by IDD are able to watch their children grow up healthy and reach their full physical and mental potential. The results of the IDD program will benefit every future generation. Discuss club’s level of participation.

Club’s Banking Accounts - ADMIN
Kiwanis requires its clubs to maintain separate accounts: Administrative and Project Administrative pays for routine stationery, postage; membership pins and such awards; speaker and guests' meals at club meetings. In addition, registration expenses for members attending zone, district and international events including some funds for travel for delegates. The sources of administrative funds are members' dues and the weekly 50/50, Fines as well as an occasional fundraiser. When a member brings a potential member, the meal fee is paid by the club.

Club’s Banking Accounts – PROJECT
Kiwanis requires its clubs to maintain separate accounts: We maintain two accounts for club funds. Service and money are the means by which we operate for our Service Projects, The “service projects“ account is the “heart and soul” of our club. These funds are solicited from and % circulated back into the community. We have fundraisers to raise the service funds: Auction, Project 2, Project 3 i.e .

Conventions and Conferences
K I W A N I S I N T E R N A T I O N A L Conventions and Conferences The Annual Kiwanis International Convention is an excellent event, which allows clubs from around the world to exchange ideas, participate in forums, and share fellowship. The (Florida) District Convention is the kickoff for the new Kiwanis year, which runs from October to September Club officers and interested members attend. The (Tampa Bay) Zone Conference gives members an opportunity to attend classes and forums about club operation, committees and other exciting topics. Kiwanis International conducts an annual convention, which is staged to: · Elect International Board members · Amend the International Constitution and Bylaws · Conduct leadership and membership education · Provide Kiwanis fellowship · Provide guidance and inspiration for clubs Each club is entitled to send two delegates and two alternates to the International convention. These delegates compose the House of Delegates and vote on the election of officers to the Board of Trustees, resolutions, and proposed amendments to the International Constitution and Bylaws. District conventions and conferences achieve the same objectives but at the district level. If appropriate, discuss dates, locations, and club policies for sending members to each of these events. Kiwanis Trivia - Answers
“Serving the Children of the World” Became the Motto of Kiwanis in 2005 when Kiwanis became 90 years old “We Build” Was the original Motto for Kiwanis The name "Kiwanis" means "we trade" or "we share our talents." It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis. Slogan: By each club impacting its own community and as a global organization, we are Serving the Children of the World. Motto: Throughout its history, the Kiwanis name has been synonymous with endeavors that build character, knowledge, commerce, communities, and – through genuine concern for others – hope. We Build in Kiwanis. The name: Kiwanis stems from a North American Indian phrase, which, like many aboriginal terms, had a variety of meanings, including; “We have a good time,” “We make a noise,” or “We trade.” Defining Statement: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time
