2 WHERE DO ORANGUTANS LIVE? Orangutans live in Indonesia on the island of Sumatra. They also live in Malaysia on the island of Borneo. These are the only places where Orangutans live in the wild.

3 HOW MANY TYPES OF ORANGUTANS ARE THERE? There are two species or types of Orangutan the Bornean Orangutan. And the Sumatran Orangutan.

4 ARE ORANGUTANS APES OR MONKEYS? Orangutans, like gorillas and chimpanzees, are a Great Ape. In fact humans share 96.4% of our genetic makeup with orangutans! The easiest way to distinguish between monkeys and apes is to look for a tail. Apes don't have tails where as most monkeys do.

5 WHAT DO ORANGUTANS LOOK LIKE? Male Orangutans are bigger than female Orangutans. Male Orangutans can grow up to 1.5m tall and weigh as much as120kg, Females are much smaller they grow up to 1m tall and weigh about 45kg. Male Orangutans grow a beard and moustache, when they become adults, some male Orangutans grow cheek pads and throat pouches.

6 WHY ARE ORANGUTANS ENDANGERED Orangutans are losing their homes because trees in tropical rainforests are being cut down to make furniture and paper out of the wood, then the land is cleared to grow palm oil. Also baby orang-utans are taken from their home to be sold as pets.
