CHILDCARE REPORT - DAYCARE As of April 1, 2012 Two new staff members – Term Position (maternity leave), SIGA position (term position) Changes to licensing (TATC) Staff can no longer administer medication Van donated to Daycare from the Health Department Pre-pay policy will be adhered to Childcare facility Grand Opening – Aug. 20, 2012 New Facility October 2012

CHILDCARE REPORT - HEADSTART 2012 – 2013 classes for Headstart will commence Monday, September 17, 2012 Headstart Van damaged from storm in June 2012 Van purchase not covered in funding agreement

HEALTH PORTFOLIO REPORT Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2012 $74 million reduction to FNIHB over the next three years Funding Reduction will effect: Essential health promotion and disease prevention programs and services, health research Some programs affected: Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative Aboriginal Youth Suicide Prevention Strategy Maternal and Child Health Program Sexually Transmitted Disease and HIV/AIDS Program On-going funding will focus on: Direct Service Delivery – primary health care, nursing and community- based programming

HEALTH PORTFOLIO REPORT George Gordon First Nation Community Based Plan Holistic Community Health Plan Five year plan (2012 – 2017) Developed over the years based on community health needs and the Community Health Needs Assessment (2003 Agreement signed to develop a Community Health Plan) GGFN Health Priorities identified: Children & Youth, Population & Wellness, Healthy Living, Freedoms from Addictions & Effective Management Goal is to examine social determinants of health to understand/address the “root causes” of ill health in our community including the role of residential schools, the loss of language and identity.

HEALTH PORTFOLIO REPORT Next Steps… Gordon Family Wellness Centre Deliver a program that encompasses existing programs following traditional teachings designed to be more family-orientated. This step allows the Gordon First Nation to assist in the fulfilling of the person’s needs based on the traditional medicine wheel Program will be evaluated and re-evaluated on a yearly basis Evaluation will examine: Perception of health status and service at 2013 Perception difference over the five year plan Understand effects of Residential schools, loss of language and identity on the health of our members Assess Holistic Plan on the effects – did it succeed? Will include surveys, interviews, research circles, videos Research conducted follows the University of Regina Behavioral Research Ethics guidelines
