1 Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) Dr A K Husband – Acting Dean of Pharmacy

2 ∂ Division of Pharmacy Formed as part of the renaming of the School of Medicine and Health to School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Health. Currently working towards full accreditation with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) for the MPharm. Will commence in the AY 2013-2014 with an initial intake of 40 students. Subsequent intakes will be 60, 80, 100, 120 predicated upon various changes within the profession. 120 will be the maximum cohort size.

3 ∂ Durham MPharm PHAR1006 Fundamentals of Pharmacy- the integration of science and practice 120 credits PHAR2006 Pharmaceutical Care- pathology, patients and professionalism 120 Credits PHAR3006 Applied Pharmaceutical Interventions- design, delivery and decisions 120 Credits PHAR4003 Targeted Therapeutics- optimisation, critique and responsibility 60 Credits PHAR4013 Research Project 60 Credits

4 ∂ The Durham MPharm Innovative, integrated, research-led programme. Includes a full range of placements, but specifically focuses on placements to widen experience of healthcare as a whole. Retains the strong science-base of pharmacy with clear orientation to clinical practice. Capitalises on current strengths within Durham. Includes an innovative assessment strategy. Is adaptable to potential changes within pharmacy education (MPC).

5 ∂ Admissions Currently we require: Minimum GCSE Mathematics and English Language at grade C or above; AAB (or equivalent) at A 'Level, which must include Biology and Chemistry; equivalent qualifications are documented by the University. Any access to HE courses must have sufficient chemistry for our needs. We will review this on an individual basis; all applicants must satisfy Fitness to Practice (FtP) requirements on admission and throughout the programme. These are initial requirements and are possibly subject to change within the normal recruitment cycle deadlines. We do not interview applicants at present.

6 ∂ What are the employment options? Currently almost 100% of MPharm graduates enter pre-registration training – this is changing. On completion of pre-registration training, including the national registration assessment students will be eligible to register with GPhC.
