David Roth | Evansdale Library, West Virginia University 23/62 Assisted patron search (6/6) We do this because some patrons may not be familiar with the MountainLynx Catalog and may not have checked to see whether the item is charged out or not (If it is charged out to another patron, s/he should complete a Recall of the item or use the E-ZBorrow capability) Also, they may have missed noticing in which library it is located If conditions at the Circulation Desk permit, the supervisor may ask you to accompany the patron into the stacks to locate the item or to venture out alone to find it (more on that in section 10.3) If you cannot find it, then recommend that the patron should fill out a Missing Item Search Request form, which will initiate a formal search for the item

Set of three formal searches that we will do before declaring item “lost”

David Roth | Evansdale Library, West Virginia University 28/62 Filling out a Missing Item Search Request form (4/5) Ask the patron to complete one of these forms Confirm that s/he has legibly written the date, the title, author, and call number of the book, as well as her/his name, patron WVU ID number, email address (we communicate via email), and mail address We will look up the item barcode If the person is being fined for a book that s/he claims was returned, check that box Tell the person that we will notify them when we have completed our search for the item Our first search usually occurs within a day of the submission of a request form
