3 Responsibility for the Production of Knowledge Recognize, understand and balance subjectivities –Appreciate alternate realities –Get the full story –Ensure authenticity

4 Responsibility for the Production of Knowledge Accurately Report on Results. Students need to ensure that they do not: –Fabricate / falsify results –Omit cases/ ‘fiddle’ within numbers –Plagiarize –Misrepresent authorship

5 Responsibility for the Production of Knowledge Students must also: Act within the law Develop appropriate expertise and experience

6 Responsibility for the Researched Ensure respondents have given informed consent. This implies that students are: –Competent –Autonomous –Involved voluntarily –Aware of their right to discontinue –Not deceived –Not coerced –Not induced

7 Responsibility for the Researched Ensure that no harm comes to respondents. This includes both –physical and –psychological harm

8 Responsibility for the Researched Ensure confidentiality, and if appropriate anonymity –Confidentiality – researcher protects known identity –Anonymity – research does not know identity
