2. High School 101: Discipline Key factors in obeying the rules: o Read the district handbook thoroughly o Read the student handbook thoroughly

3. Examples of consequences: o Verbal warning – an administrator will document discussion of the behavior o Lunch detention – the student must report to D101 before the tardy bell rings; lunch will be eaten in D101; the student will remain there until the bell rings for your next period (be informed of the rules in room D101) o ISS – In School Suspension, the student remains in room D101 for an entire day (or days) and completes assignments in that room; there are rules specific to ISS, know them! REMOVAL FROM ISS WILL RESULT IN A SUSPENSION OUT OF SCHOOL o OSS – Out of School Suspension, student remains at home and is readmitted to school with a parent/administrator conference; student is not permitted to attend any school events during the day of the suspension(or weekend if suspended on a Friday) High School 101: Discipline Consequences

Examples of consequences: o OSS – after 3 suspensions, a student will be placed on School Probation; after 4 suspensions, a student will be remanded to SCiP (South Carolina Interventions Program); after 5 suspensions, a student may be recommended for expulsion o Parking privileges suspended – students with multiple discipline referrals may have their parking privileges revoked. The first time, parking is revoked for 30 days. The second time, it is revoked for the entire year. o Expulsion Hearing – students with multiple out of school suspensions may be recommended for expulsion. Once you are expelled, you are not able to go to any public school in South Carolina for that year. o Givhans Alternative Program (GAP) – GAP is the alternative school within Dorchester District 2. Students may be sent there on a mandatory basis because of discipline needs, or a parent may request to have a student sent there voluntarily. High School 101: Discipline Consequences

High School 101: Common Infractions Cell Phone/Electronic Devices o The rules have been explained!! o NO electronic devices/cell phones/headphones in instructional areas o NO headphones in the hallways/instructional areas o REFUSAL TO TURN OVER A CELL PHONE/ELECTRONIC DEVICE WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC SUSPENSION o ALL CELL OFFENSES/ELECTRONIC DEVICES CARRY DISCIPLINE CONSEQUENCES AS WELL AS THE OBLIGATION FEE!! BE SMART AND USE WISELY!

7. High School 101: Common Infractions Dress Code o It has been made VERY clear…all dress code infractions will be recorded o Frequent infractions carry discipline consequences of ISS and OSS

8. High School 101: Common Infractions Cutting Class o A FULL day of ISS is given on the FIRST offense o OSS is given on each infraction thereafter o Parking privileges are revoked for repeat offenses o Cutting class can affect your ability to receive credit

9. High School 101: Common Infractions Tardies o Get to class on time! o You may be recommended for expulsion after 15 tardies o If you are continually late to class, you are missing valuable information!

10. High School 101: Common Infractions Leaving School/Campus o Once you enter the building, you are not allowed to leave unless signed out in the front office or you have early release (seniors only) o Leaving school/campus leaves you subject to search and seizure o A FULL day of ISS is given on the first day o OSS is given on each infraction thereafter

11. High School 101: Common Infraction Public Display of Affection (PDA) o PDA is not permitted at Ashley Ridge o This includes kissing and inappropriate touching o Consequences range from lunch detention to OSS o Any sexual activity will result in an automatic recommendation for expulsion o Appropriately, show your concern for others while at school

12. High School 101: Common Infractions Fighting o Any fighting is cause for a 5 day suspension plus arrest by the School Resource Officers (SRO) Spectator Fighting o Spectator fighting is characterized by students who watch a fight for that very purpose (with no indications of anyone trying to help with the situation, alert authorities, etc.). This is indicative of students who run towards a fight, go to certain areas with the purpose of watching a fight, video or sound record a fight. o Any spectator fighting is cause for a 1 – 5 day suspension
