Early Days of Section 508 at FDIC

2000 June: had our first 508 meeting July: understood all the 508 rules August: finalized project plan and briefed stakeholders September: drafted Product Assessment Form December: reviewed the revised rules

2001 First Quarter: briefed stakeholders and established a 508 waiver process Second Quarter: began FDIC.gov assessment Third Quarter: finished FDIC.gov assessment Forth Quarter: began remediation Early Days of Section 508 at FDIC

Goals Determine how big the problem was Find out what it was going to cost Figure out how to get the most bang for the buck Assessing our Web Content and Web Applications

Approach Separated content from applications Conducted high-level review Placed the web products into 3 categories based on complexity Conducted detailed code review with some help from Jaws Generated level of effort to fix each product Assessing our Web Content and Web Applications

Conclusion Most of the content and applications issues were not complex Fix the easy stuff first Get money and expertise to fix the more complex problems while we resolved the simple problems Assessing our Web Content and Web Applications
