FUNDING GRADUATE SCHOOL 1.Fellowships : A merit-based scholarship, or form of academic financial aid. 2.Assistantships : Financial assistance provided through part-time academic employment. 3.Employer Tuition Reimbursement : Various employer-sponsored programs to help employees and their dependents pay for college and/or graduate programs.

ASSISTANTSHIPS A financial award to a graduate student for part-time work in teaching or research while pursuing study toward an advanced degree. Designed to assist students in strengthening skills and successfully completing their graduate program Usually made within a students’ academic units, but students may accept assistantships outside their unit of study

TYPES OF ASSISTANTSHIPS Teaching Assistant (TA/TA Spec): directly involved with producing student credit hours Teaching Associate (TAssoc): advanced teaching assistant Research Assistant (RA): one who helps with research that is relevant to the assistant’s thesis, dissertation or other requirement for a graduate degree Graduate Assistant (GA/GA Spec): someone who’s duties are related to instruction, but who is not directly involved in producing student credit hours Project Assistant (PA): one does work required by a research grant, contract or special project that is not related to degree requirements

BENEFITS CONTINUED… Resident Tuition and Tuition Waiver Awards, if applicable o Considered a scholarship o Tuition waiver up to 12 hours per semester or 3 hours during the summer o Out-of-state students are eligible for the resident tuition rate if the FTE is 25% or higher and the assistantship is held for at least one-half of the semester Health Insurance – full payment through Student Health Center
