SIMPLE PHENOMENA OF MAGNETISM David Vundi
2
Magnets have two ends – poles – called north and south. Like poles repel; unlike poles attract. However, if you cut a magnet in half, you don’t get a north pole and a south pole – you get two smaller magnets.

Magnetic Field (B SI unit ~ T tesla ) points from “North” to “South” poles Recall: Electric Field (E) points from + to - chargeopposite poles attract like poles repel Magnetic Field Lines B is tangent to the field lines at any point The density of the lines represents the strength of the magnetic field“south sux’s ~ north blows” Web Link: Magnetic FieldsMagnetic Fields

Plotting Compasses show the Magnetic field direction Uniform Magnetic field
9
A uniform magnetic field is constant in magnitude and direction. The field between these two wide poles is nearly uniform. Magnetism 20

Facts about Magnetic Fields (B-fields) 1) North and South poles cannot be isolated 2) All B-fields are caused by moving electric charge 3) The Earth has a Magnetic Field: Web Links: Earth’s B-Field Northern LightsEarth’s B-Field Northern Lights 4) B-fields exert a force on moving, charged particles: Force is out of the screen B + Force is into of the screen + unaffected + +
