TEXT: Genesis 11:1-9 At the “tower of Babel” Satan’s attack against God’s plan of redemption was an effort to mislead man by:

I. Peer pressure A. Notice the extensive use of the word “us” (Gen 11:3-4) B. Notice the concept of “self- preservation” C. Notice the disregard of God’s promise of protection in 9:1-7

II. World Unification A. If we work together we will get along— the concept of world peace (v 3-4) B. Disregard of God’s directive to scatter abroad (9:1-3)

III. A Counterfeit Religion A. Characterized by the tower—a ziggurat or terrace tower used in the worship of pagan deities, later a grove of trees in a “high place” was used in Israel…the pyramids in Egypt were forms of the ziggurat B. It was worship of the counterfeit “mother and child” which began here, the wife of Nimrod, Semiramus I and her child Tammuz—the sign of the “T” (cf. Gen 10:9-10; Ezek 8:14; Jer 7:18; 44:17-19) C. This counterfeit religion, in its varied forms throughout history, has been used by Satan as an attempt to mislead men from understanding and believing the truth of God’s Plan of Redemption through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ (Rev 18:1-2; 20)
