Medical Care In Afghanistan
2
Patients have very limited access to medical care Most facilities are in Urban areas Safety is in jeopardy while traveling to facility Women who don’t have a husband or man to escort them outside wont get medical attention Prenatal doctors are scarce Male-female contact is prohibited, unless clothes are on
3
Patients were sometimes left with open sores and maggots in their wounds Stolen pharmaceuticals and counterfeit medicine were used on Afghanistan soldiers Starving patients, no sedatives in surgery and bedsores are also an issue ("Afghanistan's 'Auschwitz-like’”)
4
Favor is in your hands if you’re wealthy in Afghanistan Choice between Public Clinics that don’t run smoothly and Private Clinics which are very expensive Generally harder on secondary class Due to insecurity people need to travel hundreds of miles through extremely dangerous areas. (“Briggs”)
5
Women and girls have been denied there basic rights; education, work and medical care (“"Afghanistan Online: The Plight of the Afghan Woman.”) The only medical facility where women were permitted only had 35 beds Clean equipment, water, and electricity oxygen was not provided Men were given more rights and access then women in health care, but the conditions are horrible unless you are wealthy or part of royalty
6
The quality of women’s health care has decreased alarmingly under the Taliban regime ("Afghanistan Online: The Plight of the Afghan Woman.“) Male doctors were limited on treating women because “male- female” contact was prohibited unless clothes are on Men had the ability to travel freely and have access without restriction
7
94 percent of women give birth with out the present of a physician The united nation estimated that only ten percent of Afghanistan women have access to prenatal and maternal medical services (“Afghanistan Merlin USA”)
8
Very limited Medical treatment for women is scarce If not wealthy or part of royalty medical treatment is hard to find
9
Public doesn’t have much sterilization, medicine or water treatment Medicine isn't always found to be adequate and can be counterfeit Not many women are physicians Private is very expensive Lack of vaccine
10
Difficulties are faced by rural communities trying to obtain a safe access to local medical services. (“Afghanistan: outlook remains bleak despite progress in some areas”) In rural areas there are “basic health units” which are small and simple facilities. (“Brigg”) Rural areas seem to have more infectious disease, and acute respiratory infections. (“Briggs”) Lack of trained health professionals (“Briggs”) Since there is lack of sanitation in Rural and Urban areas more and more people are becoming sick (“Afghanistan- HEALTH”)
