7. 7 Visual Aids ̶ Preparation  They are aids! Don’t read from the slides.  Use headlines on every visual.  Headlines can be: conclusion drawn from the info on that slide (recommended) purpose/main idea of the slide Avoid terms that are too general (“Introduction”).  One message or one key point per slide.  Use “bullet” form.  Remove words that are not critical.  Avoid long sentences.  Number the slides.

8. 8 Visual Aids ̶ Presentation  Try not to block anyone’s view.  Adjust the lights in the room.  Show a visual only when you are discussing it.  Always tell the audience how to read a chart/graph before discussing the detail.  Look at the projector or the screen when you need a prompt.  Never talk while you are looking at the projector or the screen, or writing.  Check the screen every time you change a slide.  Turn off the projector before the question period.
