6 Success of the experiential learning component(s) of a co-operative education programme is dependent on a number of key issues, e.g.: The experiential learning curriculum and guidelines (courseware). Registration for experiential learning and where needed placement assistance. Orientation (briefing and objective setting) prior to commencement of experiential learning. Planning and contracting of an individual student’s experiential learning.

7 Success of experiential learning … key issues continues: Appointment of a work-place mentor (supervisor of experiential learning). Monitoring (visitation) of progress (formative assessment). Summative assessment of experiential learning and feedback. Facilitated reflection on experiential learning or debriefing of students. Evaluation of the completed experiential learning and the attainment of academic credit.
